A container hospital

Carlo Ratti and Italo Rota are two Italian architects who have adapted the classic container model used in the transport of goods to a ventilation system that provides negative pressure (favorable to avoid the transmission of viruses). His project, called CURA ( Connected Units for Respiratory Ailments ), also foresees the connection of several containers (each admitting two beds) and their assembly with conventional hospitals.

A tent of isolation

The project by the German architect Gregory Quinn responds to the logic of keeping patients away from hospitals, of offering isolation cells as aseptic as possible in the garden of a house, for example. The idea is to create a polyester dome and fiberglass structures inflated with hot air that has the advantage of allowing very fast assembly (a matter of hours) and easy transport. The project is the development of some previous work from the University of Bath, in the United Kingdom, on emergency architecture in crisis situations.

Tents to expand hospitals

Jupe, a start-up where businessmen, scientists and designers come together, has developed a model of a tent suitable for medicalization and, above all, stackable in flat boxes, such as those from Ikea. What are units like this for? To urgently expand hospitals or take their care to rural areas. A 12 meter trailer can carry 24 units.

Rooms made in 3D printers

Another urgent solution to create serialized medical units. The Chinese company Winsun has designed and 3D printed several isolation cells that can receive two people in quarantine and the medical personnel who care for them. It has also created rooms of 10 square meters designed to facilitate the social isolation of the healthy.

From airport to hospital

In Germany, the almost endless project of the new Berlin airport in the Brandenburg area has been the subject of much criticism and some corruption scandal. This fall, the inauguration of the new infrastructure was planned, so that its halls are practically habitable. The German Ministry of Health suggested its recycling and Opposite architecture studio has developed a medicalization model.
