The five archipelagos of French Polynesia went under curfew Friday evening (Saturday in Paris) to fight against the epidemic of coronavirus, on a decision of the high commission of the Republic. Until April 15, no Polynesian and no Polynesian is allowed to leave his home between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. caregivers.

During the day, containment continues more strictly. The gendarmerie will limit the interactions between the urban area and the rural area of Tahiti, the latter not being contaminated. There were no new cases of Covid-19 detected in Polynesia on Friday. The community has no deaths from this disease, and the 30 confirmed cases are concentrated in the urban area of Tahiti, except three patients detected on the neighboring island of Moorea.

Controlled respirators

To control the epidemic, the local government suspended inter-island air links, as well as international flights. The only planes authorized to fly are those that provide medical evacuations, or that transport medical equipment. Polynesia has ordered thousands of gloves and protective masks, ten thousand tests of Covid-19, as well as respirators.

The hospital center in Tahiti has forty resuscitation beds equipped with respirators, but the Ministry of Health also wants to provide small hospitals with archipelagos. Only a few homeless refractory to confinement continue to roam the city. They are already a hundred to be confined to two gymnasiums and a high school in Papeete, the Tahitian economic lung, where almost all activity has ceased.
