The prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales and the Regional Health Agency announced this Thursday the opening in Perpignan of a shelter for people contaminated by Covid-19, and who present a risk of transmission.

"In Perpignan, the rapid progression of infections poses a significant risk to the populations concerned, said the prefecture of the Pyrenees-Orientales, in a press release. People who are infected and likely to transmit the virus to their families must be isolated, and helped in this direction if they are not able to find a shelter solution other than that usually occupied. "

Patients followed by rescuers

This center is located in a hotel in Perpignan. Rooms, demarcated in relation to the rest of the establishment, have been reserved for the sick. On a voluntary basis, those hospitalized, whose care must end, but who remain contagious, will be offered this solution. "Their release will free up places in the hospital center," says the prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Also eligible for the scheme are people who have visited one of the Covid-19 consultation centers, whose symptoms do not justify hospitalization but who present a contagious risk for several days.

98 hospitalizations in Perpignan

The center was opened with the support of the department and the Federation of Rescue and First Aid, whose members will ensure on-site monitoring of patients.

According to the latest ARS report, published on Wednesday, there are 98 hospitalizations in progress in the Pyrénées-Orientales, including one person in intensive care. Three people were able to return to their homes, and one died from the Covid-19.
