March 22, 1895 was born the People's Artist of the USSR Leonid Utesov. In his youth, he performed in a traveling circus and played in a traveling orchestra, changed many theaters, and then, having heard jazz for the first time, assembled his own band, which later became the State Pop Orchestra of the RSFSR. Utesov brought national fame to the main role in the first Soviet musical comedy "Jolly Fellows". During the war years he performed on tour a lot, supported the fighting spirit of the military and rear workers. The artist’s repertoire included dozens of songs, including the songs “Dark Night”, “Odessa Bear”, “Near the Black Sea”, “My Dear Muscovites!” and other hits. Utesova died on March 9, 1982.
