The band of friends of "A beautiful story", coming soon to France 2. - TETRA MEDIA FICTION / MONOGO / FRANCE TELEVISIONS

What must be sacrificed to make a successful couple? A vast question that a beautiful story is trying to answer A drama created by Frédéric Krivine ( A French village ) and Emmanuel Daucé ( Vernon Subutex, A French village, Irresponsible ) and broadcast this Wednesday at 9 p.m. on France 2. This fiction in eight episodes, awarded at the La Rochelle TV fiction festival, follows the journeys of three couples, friends in life. A low-concept series with high addictive potential.

This choral series is freely inspired by a British series, relatively unknown in France but very popular across the Channel, Cold Feet . The series is not an adaptation. “We kept the three couples from the original series, but little remains of the events. On the other hand, there is an imprint on the psychological profile of the characters, ”explains Frédéric Krivine, co-creator and writing director of A beautiful story , that 20 Minutes met at the TV fiction festival in La Rochelle.

“High concept series like Prison Break or Heroes sell well at the start but are very difficult to decline. With the low concept series, which tell of everyday life, there is a difficult pitfall at the start: you have to attract the public to an ordinary subject, but if they are hooked on the characters, they stay, ”says Frédéric Krivine.

A romantic comedy about an emerging couple

Frédéric Krivine relies on the “identification and humanity” of his characters to capture the attention of the public, and wishes to portray “ordinary but conflicting situations”, inspired by his “gang of friends”. And A beautiful story can indeed count on a gallery of endearing characters who are more real than life. How do we meet? How do we live together? How do we stay together? A beautiful story explores the mechanics of hearts and of the couple in all its facets through the fate of a "band of friends".

The series follows the romantic encounter between Charlotte (Tiphaine Daviot, seen in HP ) and David (Sébastien Chassagne, the hero of Irresponsable ). "Their love at first sight does not take place in one scene, it is diffuse, it stretches, and it is upset," warns Nadège Loiseau ( Le Petit Locataire ), who signs the staging with delicacy of the first four episodes. "They are not available both for love, Charlotte is in a relationship with Eric and David is no longer ready to love, because to love is to suffer", she explains . "The romantic comedy genre seems interesting to us, in particular for a 52-minute series, because there are issues of the order of comedy and drama," explains Frédéric Krivine's accomplice, Emmanuel Daucé.

Two couples in crisis

In parallel with this emerging love story, this choral series also attempts to describe the marital afflictions experienced by David's friends. Bobos Caroline and Philippe (Louise Monot seen in OSS 117: Rio no longer responds and Ben) are going through a deep crisis and have not had sex for too long. Nothing is more right for Malika and Georges (Juliette Navis, spotted in Tunnel and Jean-Charles Clichet, seen in Mytho ), a couple of young parents completely overwhelmed. "Doing a series on couples in 2020 allows us to approach the relationships between men and women, a subject that seemed very interesting to us to deal with," comments Emmanuel Daucé. "All of these challenges which seem small, but which will prove to be emotionally strong", welcomes Frédéric Krivine. There is no doubt that a large majority of couples will recognize themselves in front of A beautiful story as families recognized themselves in Do not do this, do not do that .
