  • While Italy has identified more than 300 cases of contamination with the new coronavirus and 11 deaths, the Nice University Hospital (Alpes-Maritimes) must set up screening tests as soon as possible.
  • The deputy (LR) Eric Ciotti assured that these tests would not be launched until Monday, March 2, nearly a week from now.
  • They will however be put in place by Thursday or Friday, ensure the Regional Health Agency and the Nice University Hospital, who invoke the time required to prepare these devices.

Is the city of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) prepared to detect potential cases of new coronavirus (Covid-19)? The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, acknowledged that the epidemic remained "on our doorstep", a few hours before the announcement of two new cases in France.

The concern is particularly acute in the Alpes-Maritimes because of the proximity of this department with Italy, where there are more than 300 contaminations. Monday, February 24, when suspected cases had just been dismissed in Nice, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (Paca) announced in the process that the University Hospital Center (CHU) in Nice would be equipped "in the next few hours" with screening kits, in addition to the Marseille Hospital Institute (IHU), the only service in the region hitherto authorized to carry out this diagnosis.

But according to the deputy (LR) and departmental adviser of the Alpes-Maritimes Eric Ciotti, the "delay" taken in the management of this file repels the launch of these tests. “We had the feeling of a wavering […] The unit dedicated to the Nice University Hospital was opened last night [Monday, February 24] and that's good. On the other hand, the tests in Nice can only be carried out next Monday, it is late, we were told tomorrow ", he said this Tuesday morning on France 2, in the program" The Four Truths "( at 1'02 in the replay of the show).

A statement reiterated by Eric Ciotti this afternoon in the National Assembly, during a speech during the session of questions to the government. The elected official asked for "acts" from the executive, among which "the establishment of tests at the University Hospital of Nice, while they are returned until next Monday" (at 46'40 in the video archive of this session).

FAKE OFF

Contacted by 20 Minutes , Eric Ciotti confirms his remarks and refers us to the measures requested during his speech at the National Assembly. An internal document at the CHU dated February 24, which 20 Minutes was able to consult, clearly indicates the date of Monday March 2 as that "envisaged or planned" for the launch of these tests.

"Operational by Thursday" tests

For his part, Alexandre Romain, departmental delegate of the ARS of Paca, tells us that "the sampling kits have been delivered to the CHU in Nice". "The certification is in progress, and the tests should be operational by Thursday [February 27], since there is an incompressible time to proceed with the quality certification on the machines and thus make sure to avoid false positives "He continues.

A calendar consistent with that put forward by Charles Guépratte, director general of the Nice University Hospital, at a press conference held with the ARS of Paca in the early afternoon: “We are being equipped to be able to perform the tests directly at the CHU. We still have to wait until Thursday or Friday for us to be operational ”.

The CHU of Nice had however not been able to tell us, before publication, if this calendar was scheduled for Monday 24 February or if it has been changed in the last hours.
