Rapper Koba LaD. - SADAKA EDMOND / SIPA

Since this weekend, Koba LaD is at the heart of a lively controversy that has emerged on Snapchat. The rapper is accused of having published homophobic remarks, before becoming entangled in obscure and haphazard explanations.

Publications that could seriously tarnish the career of the young artist, whose success has been growing for over a year. Since Monday, many festivals are planning to deprogram the rapper.

Strange justifications

If his name is unknown to some, for others, Koba LaD is one of the most promising rappers of his generation. Originally from Evry (Essonne), the 19-year-old artist had his first successes in 2017 with his Ténébreux freestyles, followed by two studio albums: VII in 2018 (certified platinum disc), and Affranchis in 2019. He is also known for his numerous collaborations, among others with Ninho, Niska and Heuss l'Enfoiré.

Sunday, Koba LaD is said to have posted an ephemeral post in which an article appears on the murder of a young American boy, killed by his father "because he was gay". A news item that dates back to 2017, reports Konbini. At the bottom of the publication, Koba LaD would have welcomed this infanticide by capturing the photo of a "Well done", accompanied by emojis of hands that shake.

Faced with many indignant reactions, the rapper would then have published a message to explain: "I see that it is starting to be controversial, I'm not homophobic, try not to stick a label on me. God for all. I do not endorse the rotating screen. A text followed by a video in which he specifies that he is not the author of the publication he relayed. But, while he probably wanted to clear up the situation and put out the fire, the young man became entangled in questionable justifications. "I do not endorse the murder at all, nor the gay child," he explains in a first video. "I don't endorse the murder. Afterwards, the gay child, frankly ... Everyone for himself, God for all, ”he adds in a second video.

Koba Lad: "No Twitter you are bastards I misspoke myself I do not endorse the murder after the gay child everyone to be god for all"

Deprogramming to come?

Words that caused an uproar on social networks, and which pushed Internet users to question festivals where Koba LaD was scheduled. Thus, the Art Rock festival indicates being in contact with the rapper's team. "We are asking for explanations following its publication on Snapchat. The Art Rock festival strongly condemns homophobic comments, and, more broadly, any hateful and discriminatory speech or behavior, "he said in a statement.

Same speech on the side of We Love Green or the Main Square Festival. Decisions on the maintenance of these concerts should not be long in coming.
