The Splash painting by famous British pop artist David Hockney was sold at 23.1 million pounds ($ 29.8 million) at an auction in London the day before yesterday.
Hockney's 1966 painting depicts the moment a man dives in a swimming pool, exemplifying California's fictional lifestyle.
"This is not only a prominent work by David Hockney, it is also a symbol of pop art," said Sotheby's chief of contemporary art, Emma Baker.
