The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Tuesday that the Chinese coronavirus was named "Covid-19", a name "easy to pronounce" and without reference "stigmatizing" to a country or a particular population.

The new coronavirus will be officially called "Covid-19 ', the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva announced on Tuesday.

A designation "easy to pronounce"

This name replaces that of 2019-nCoV, decided provisionally after the onset of the disease. The new name was chosen to be "easy to pronounce", while remaining without "stigmatizing" reference to a country or a particular population, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. "If we invest now (...) we have a realistic chance of stopping this epidemic," he said.
