Authorities on Tuesday ordered the confinement of residents of the village of Sari-Solenzara (Corse-du-Sud), after the resumption, under the effect of strong winds, of the fire which has already burned, for a week, about 2,000 hectares of vegetation around Quenza and Bavella.

“A containment measure for the village of Sari and the hamlet of Togna was decided by the commander of the rescue operations. The information of the inhabitants is carried out door to door by the gendarmerie of Corsica, "announced the prefecture of Corse-du-Sud in a press release. The municipality of Sari-Solenzara has about 1,400 inhabitants, but the authorities did not immediately know how many people were at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Among the people confined to Sari-Solenzara are 87 teenagers, in their school establishment, as well as nuns, cloistered in the convent where they live, specified the commander Bruno Maestracci, director of the fire and rescue services of Corsica- from South. A group of 23 firefighters took "a smoke," he also said, but none of them was hospitalized. Rescuers especially call for no one in the area to attempt a "wild" evacuation, ensuring that the residents were safer confined to their homes.
