The Parasite won the Best Ensemble Award last month at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG). The SAG awards ceremony is organized by the actors' associations, so there is nothing else but acting. The film is divided into the film and TV categories, and the TV category is again divided into male and female, cast, supporting and general ensembles and stunt ensembles. The Best Ensemble Award is given when all actors are judged to have harmonious performances throughout the film. So it's actually a work of art.

'Parasites' broke down the boundary between nation and culture. In California, where I am staying, the interest in 'parasites' is enormous. In particular, when I realized that I was Korean and write a film review, many people asked questions about the film and its actors. Although the language is different and the culture is unfamiliar, the problems of class and inequality in this film are universal, making it easy for American audiences to relate.

Their interests begin with the story and symbolism and move on to the actors' acting. 'Parasite' is not actually a work that shows the outstanding performance of an actor. It is difficult to judge who is the main character, and the acting of all the actors is harmonious.

The acting of the harmonious actors gave different impressions to each audience. One time, an American friend asked me, "The actor acting is so natural and impressive. What kind of person is it?" The middle-aged actress representing Korea had a strange expression on her friend. Again, he was referring to Choi Woo-sik, the son of the play. Of course, the opposite was true.

For female actors, the confusion gets worse. When someone talks about the impressive acting of a leading actress, it is impossible to react until he is sure of what actor he is talking about. Cho Yeo-jeong, Jang Hye-jin, Park So-dam and Lee Jung-eun's color was too different. But if you weigh the weight in a movie, it's hard to tell the bottom line. When I chose this year's main and supporting actress in the year-end film weekly survey, I wasn't sure who I should put where. It's too bad to get one out.

The opinions of foreign film critics were similar. Two critics from the New York Times, Manohla Dargis and AO Scott, have published articles that anticipate key sector candidates for the 92nd Academy Awards tomorrow, South Korea (10th). Actresses of <Parasite> were duplicated on the 10th place in the Best Supporting Actress Award, which two critics talked about. In other words, Park So-dam, Lee Jung-eun, Jo Yeo-jeong, and Jang Hye-jin filled the two lists of the nominations for best supporting roles.

※ 'Parasite' was nominated in six categories such as Foreign Language Film Awards, Works Awards, Director Awards, Screenwriting Awards, Editorial Awards and Fine Arts Awards at the Academy Awards.

Let's go back to the SAG Awards. After receiving the best ensemble award, I recall the impression that Song Kang Ho made on stage.

Although the title is 'parasite'
'Parasite' is a movie about how we can live together.
The best award today makes me think we didn't make a movie wrong.

The audience applauded and laughed at his humble and witty comment. He added again.

I'm honored to receive a big prize today
I will keep my beautiful memories forever.

At the time, there were legendary actors, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, who once appeared in Martin Scorsese's conversion, Irishman, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, who were once synonymous with handsome actors. Another legend, Meryl Streep and Laura Dunn, the queen of indie art films, was also laughing. There was also Joaquin Phoenix, a Joker who swept the actors and actresses of all the big and small film festivals in the United States.

The best actor of the SAG Awards was also part of Joaquin Phoenix. He talked about the nominated actors with him, revealing what stimulus and inspiration they gave him. His awards filled with wit and excitement also received great applause and attention. He finally returned all his glory to The Joker in The Dark Knight and sent it off to his now deceased Heath Ledger, which allowed many to look inside the Joker.

As I watched the awards from Song Kang-ho and Joaquin Phoenix, I felt that the movie is no different from the way people live. A great work is created when a great number of people harmonize with talent rather than someone's unique genius. There is also a saying that "a good movie shoots a good movie." And the genius of someone is ultimately owed to the inspiration and experiences that have been handed down by so many who have been before them. None is done alone. That's one of the biggest appeals of the art of film.

The history of 'parasites' has continued to crush Koreans living in the United States this year. We were able to talk about Korea and sympathize with society outside of Korea. The influence of the parasite is expected in the Academy Awards, which Bong Joon-ho called the local film festival, whose influence cannot be ignored in the global film market.
