Although it is over seven years since the Iron pipe scandal, the event is still current. It was in 2012 that three politicians from the Swedish Democrats, including Kent Ekeroth, armed themselves with iron pipes after a previous quarrel.

The event received a lot of attention and a film, which Ekeroth himself took of the event, was published by several different media. Since Ekeroth had a copyright to the film, he subsequently demanded compensation for the publications.

The Patent and Market Court has previously concluded that SVT must pay compensation. The judgment has been appealed by SVT, which states that freedom of expression outweighs the copyright in this case.
