The Senate will give its conclusions on the management of the consequences of the fire at the Lubrizol factory in Rouen in early April, the commission of inquiry said in a statement on Wednesday.

This special commission, created unanimously on October 10 by the Senate, has the mission of evaluating "the intervention of the State services in the management of the environmental, health and economic consequences" of the fire which ravaged a part of the Lubrizol chemical plant in September. It must also draw lessons on the prevention of technological risks.

"A large number of unanswered questions"

The commission of inquiry conducted numerous hearings, including that of the president and chief executive officer of the Lubrizol group, Eric Schnur, and the ministers Christophe Castaner (Interior) and Agnès Buzyn (Health). It also moved to the site of the burned factory and launched an online consultation of local elected officials on industrial risks.

The chairman of the commission Hervé Maurey (centrist) believes that "at this stage, there are still a large number of unanswered questions, particularly with regard to the health consequences of the fire". "This lack of precise information contributes to maintaining the suspicion of the population," he added, quoted in the press release.

Before rendering its report, the commission has scheduled new hearings, including that of the Minister for the Ecological Transition Elisabeth Borne and the company FM Global, the insurer of Lubrizol. She will also make two trips, in the Rhône and in Belgium.
