Our Big Report takes us today to Haiti. The country is plunged into a serious political crisis. For more than a year, the opposition has demanded the resignation of the president, accused by the Superior Court of Accounts of being personally involved in corruption cases.

Publicity

Jovenel Moïse says he wants to finish his term. Between September and December 2019, this political arm wrestling led to an unprecedented protest movement: "country lock", country "blocked" in Creole. To increase pressure on the head of state, the opposition called on the population to stay at home. Most of the schools remained closed. For three months, barricades and violence prevented the free movement of people and goods across the country, cutting the provinces of the capital.

A new form of protest for the disenchanted Haitians of their corrupt political class, but which has had serious consequences on many sectors of Haitian society already under stress.

Thanks to a lull, our special envoys were able to leave Port-au-Prince in the direction of the northern provinces.

"Haiti: after the country lock operation, travel through provinces in crisis", this is a great report by Stefanie Schüler, Bertrand Haeckler and Marc Kingtoph Casimir.
