Kintetsu Private railway's last smoking vehicle ends operation February 1 10:36

Kintetsu, the only private railway express train in Japan that has been running a smoking vehicle that can smoke in its seats, has finished operating the smoking vehicle on the 31st.

Kintetsu has connected smoking vehicles, such as trains connecting Osaka, Nagoya and Ise-Shima, that can smoke in their seats.

Each seat was equipped with an ashtray so that I could smoke while watching the view from the car window.

These smoking vehicles were the only private railway express trains in Japan.

The revised Health Promotion Law, which will be enforced in April, stipulates that smoking is not allowed inside railway cars except for smoking rooms.

For this reason, Kintetsu has decided to end the operation of smoking vehicles on the 31st.

At Kintetsu, all seats are non-smoking from February 1, and people who want to smoke are encouraged to use the limited express smoking room and the smoking area at the station.

A man who used a smoking vehicle to go on a business trip from Osaka to Nagoya said, "I'm sorry but there is no way to change the times. From now on, I will smoke in the smoking room."

In addition, smoking vehicles remain on some parts of the Tokaido / Sanyo Shinkansen at JR, but all vehicles are scheduled to be non-smoking due to the schedule revision in March.
