  • The Bordeaux University Hospital took stock of the state of health of the patient suffering from the coronavirus.
  • Four people contacted with him will respect a 14-day confinement at home. Their state of health is reassessed twice a day.
  • Faced with concern, the number of calls to the SAMU center has "considerably" increased.

They were no less than nine specialists who came this Monday afternoon to answer numerous questions from the press after the discovery of a case of coronavirus in Bordeaux, last Friday. For the first time since the hospitalization of this 48-year-old man, the CHU Pellegrin wished to speak to give an update on the situation and recall the instructions to follow in the face of the Chinese virus.

At first, Yann Bubien, the director of the establishment, insisted that "no service is disrupted" by this care and that his hospital "is perfectly prepared for this kind of situation. He then gave the floor at length to Dr. Malvy, head of the tropical diseases unit and especially the traveler infected with the coronavirus:

The patient is fine. He still has a fever and a fairly strong cough. His state of health is perfectly stable and reassuring. He is receiving care but does not need oxygen. We always watch him and we accompany him. A crisis unit meets every day.

Since the discovery of his case, the management of the CHU claims to have taken care of two other patients called "suspects". The tests on these two people were ultimately negative. To date, the medical team has not received any new cases.

Four "contact persons" confined for two weeks

On the other hand, medical authorities have identified "six contact persons" that the coronavirus patient attended closely upon his return to France last week. “Two people at low risk were able to resume a normal life. Four people at high risk (two mothers and their young child) are confined to their home for a period of 14 days on our request. Their state of health is assessed twice a day by telephone, ”explains Dr Malvy.

These patients encountered the man affected by the Chinese virus in the SOS Médecin office where he was detected late last week. For the moment, there is no reason to hospitalize them, we are told.

The number of calls to 15 increased by 10%

The concern increases in any case in the population as the days go by. The medical teams can testify to this and particularly on the 15th. Since the announcement last Friday of a case of coronavirus in Bordeaux, "the number of calls to the center of the SAMU has considerably increased," admits its manager, Dr. Combes, " 10% increase. We are trained in this kind of phenomenon. If necessary, we strengthen our teams. "

The SMUR (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service) is ready to intervene at any time throughout New Aquitaine. "Even if we do not know this disease, I am rather optimistic. The Chinese very quickly played on transparency, unlike Sras in 2003, ”says a doctor from the SAMU.
