At the Staples Center arena in Los Angeles, the 62nd annual Grammy Awards were held. List of applicants for the award The U.S. National Academy of Recording Arts and Technology announced back in November 2019. The number of nominations was led by American singer Lizzo, Billy Elish and rapper Lil Nas X (the last two last year recorded on their debut album).

Top performances and major awards

The tone of the ceremony was set by Lizzo and Alisha Keyes, who participated in the event for the second year in a row and as a host. The evening opened with a performance by Lizzo, which announced that it was dedicated to Kobe Bryant, the basketball player who died in a helicopter crash, legend Los Angeles Lakers. The Grammy Awards ceremony began with a moment of silence in memory of the athlete.

After that, Alisha Keyes performed a cover version of the song Someone You Loved by the Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi, who was also among the contenders for the statuette in the nomination "Song of the Year", devoting lines to the nominees for the award. Then, the recently reunited band Jonas Brothers was invited to the stage, who sang the fresh track What a Man Gotta Do.

The first Grammy Award winner was announced in the nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance. Lizzo received the statuette, at the Grammy Day ceremony she has already won two awards for the best album in the genre of modern urban music (Cuz I Love You record) and for the best traditional performance of R & B composition (Jerome).

The afternoon Grammy was held at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater shortly before the evening event. At this time, most of the nominees were honored in various genres - from country to hip-hop. Among the owners of the statuettes are Billy Eilish, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus (for the best pop performance by a duet or group and a music video), Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and even former US First Lady Michelle Obama (she was awarded for the best conversational album) .

The announcement of the laureates of the main categories, among which were “Record of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, “Song of the Year” and “Best New Artist”, was traditionally moved to the evening.

The ceremony at the Staples Center arena continued with a tribute to the American singer Prince from the musician and producer Asher together with artist Sheila I. In 2017, Bruno Mars performed at the ceremony with the same musical celebration of Prince. At the ceremony, they also remembered the rapper Nipsi Hassle who died in March 2019.

The evening's lyrical mood was given by the numbers of Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello and country music legend Tanya Tucker.

Then on the scene with a medley of singles Imagine, My Favorite Things, 7 Rings and thank you, next came Ariana Grande, who was also one of the Grammy favorites - she claimed to win in five categories.

However, Grande this year lost to Lil Nas X and 18-year-old Billy Eilish (the latter, by the way, was considered the record holder of the evening, because she became the youngest performer who fought for figurines in four main award nominations). Ailish performed with the single When The Party's Over.

Perhaps the most striking and largely nostalgic number on the eve of the presentation of the statuettes in the main categories was shown by Aerosmith and Run-DMC, who performed the hit hit Walk This Way.

No less dynamic was the performance of rapper Lil Nas X with the 2019 hit Old Town Road (the performer performed together with Billy Ray Cyrus and the stars of K-pop, the BTS group). Old Town Road claimed the statuette in the Record of the Year nomination.

Finally, the time has come to announce the award winners in the Song of the Year nomination. This year, Lady Gaga, Billy Elish, Tanya Tucker, HER, Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Lizzo and Lewis Capaldi fought for a statuette in this category. The gramophone deservedly went to Eilish for the composition of Bad Guy.

She won in the category "Best New Artist". Elish's competitors for the statuette in this nomination were Black Pumas, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Rosalía, Tank and the Bangas and Yola. In addition, the American was awarded a Grammy in the categories “Record of the Year” (again for the track Bad Guy) and “Album of the Year” ( When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? ).

Thus, Eilish won four major Grammy nominations, becoming the first musician in 39 years to collect all four statuettes in one evening. In 1981, the musician Christopher Cross was able to do this.
