The main purpose of the Yad Vashem memorial, created in 1953, is to perpetuate the memory of the genocide of the Jewish people during the Second World War. Six million of them were killed, mainly in Europe.

They are now immortalized in miniature sculptures at the Yad Vashem museum. Overlooking the outskirts of Jerusalem, this museum, between modernity and history, preserves the memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

"This subject is always central in the world. […] There are around a million people who visit our museum each year. The majority come from abroad. They do not necessarily have any connection, through their family, with the Holocaust. I think a lot of people have understood that if you want to understand Israel, you have to understand the Holocaust, "said Dr. Robert Rozett, historian at Yad Vashem.

But Yad Vashem is much more than a museum, it is a memorial and also a research center, an international school, archives with millions of documents, a library of 170,000 books ... The institution has succeeded in gather in its rows information on 4.8 of the six million Jews killed.
