Christelle Gauzet is preparing to welcome 100 women for a solidarity raid in Iceland. - Natacha Cagnard

  • Former policewoman and winner of Koh-Lanta, the Girondine Christelle Gauzet has been involved since 2017 in the associative world.
  • With "Défi d'Elles", she organizes raids around the world to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention.
  • Supported by many female personalities, Christelle Gauzet financially supports the association "Keep a breast".

How many lives will Christelle Gauzet have? We may wonder so much the Girondine likes to take on new challenges. Police officer for 18 years, the one who is best known for winning Koh Lanta in 2008 embarked on a new adventure two years ago: “One day I wanted to discover the Arcachon Bay. I created my first raid for this in 2017 and I fully blossomed in the role of organizer. So, I decided to change my life to devote myself completely to the organization of 100% feminine and united events. "

Indeed, these are not raids like the others. With her association "Défi d'Elles", Christelle Gauzet mixes sport and solidarity. “All of the events support the Keep a breast association, which educates women about breast cancer prevention and, above all, about the practice of self-examination. This is very important because 40% of breast cancers are detected by women themselves, ”she explains.

Financial support for the association "Keep a breast"

After Finland and Croatia, she set sail for Iceland at the start of 2020. From this Thursday, 100 women will take part in the “Destination Iceland by Défi d'Elles” raid. »Three days of tests and discoveries in what is called the golden circle in the south of the island: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, running, snorkeling will be on the program. For the organizer, it will be about “going beyond in magical places. "

Two years after the creation of her association, she relies on "a beautiful community" which allows her at each event to give a nice check to "Keep a breast": "In France, we are the first donors and I am proud. Everyone must realize that we are still dying of breast cancer. One in eight women is affected by this pathology. And Christelle Gauzet does not only provide financial assistance since the participants will also have the right to a self-examination course during their adventure on site.

Committed female personalities

Among them, some are much better known than others. La Bordelaise can count on the support and participation of Laury Thilleman, Valérie Trierweiler, Marion Rousse, Clémentine Sarlat ..., committed to her side. One of the ambassadors of the raid is none other than Laure Manaudou. Installed recently on the Arcachon Basin, she "discovered pleasure sport" since the end of her career and "it is now what punctuates her life and her goals".

The former swimmer even created her own event a few months ago with the “SwimRun Laure Manaudou.” Already present in Croatia, she is setting the scene again in Iceland this winter because she admits to being sensitive to this subject:

When we talk about it around us, there is always someone who has experienced this cancer, directly or indirectly, so it is very important to educate people, especially on screening. Me with my notoriety, I am just trying to make my contribution to the building.

And she could also participate in the edition which is being prepared on the island of Koh Lanta Yai next November…
