Unusually warm weather for January was established in Moscow. It will rain in the capital on January 21, the air can warm up to +3 ... + 5 ° С, according to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center.

At the same time, it is possible that a new heat record for this date will be set in Moscow, Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist of the Phobos weather center, told 360 channel. According to him, at the moment, the highest value was recorded in 1898. Then the thermometer columns reached the level of +3.8 ° С.

Meanwhile, in St. Petersburg, the temperature record for January 21 has already been broken. This morning, the air in the northern capital warmed up to + 4.8 ° C, exceeding the values of 1957. 63 years ago weather forecasters recorded indicators of +4.6 ° С.

Record month

Anatoly Tsygankov, deputy head of the Roshydromet situational center, told RT that January 2020 could be the warmest in the history of meteorological observations.

“There have already been two records in Moscow: January 16 and 17. January 16 was +3.1 ° С, January 17 the air warmed up to +4.5 ° С. Yesterday, the day before yesterday, the records of 2007 were great: +6.2 and +6.3 ° С, we did not hold out. But today, January 21, it was +3.8 ° C in 1898. Here it is possible that the temperature will reach a record value, because for today, according to the forecast, we have +3 .. + 5 ° C, ”said the weather forecaster.

According to him, almost the whole of December, the temperature background was above normal. In January, unusually warm weather has been observed for 20 days already, the temperature is on average 7-12 ° C higher than the average values. In the near future, this trend will continue, despite some cooling for a couple of days in the middle of the week. The beginning of next week also promises to be warm.

“The last forecast for January 27 (Monday - RT ) is very warm, about 0 ° С at night, that is +2 ...- 3 ° С and in the afternoon 0 ... + 5 ° С. With this approach, it seems that in the next 2-3 days the temperature will also be above normal, ”concluded Tsygankov.

Earlier, the supervisor of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, said that in the winter of 2019-2020, the longest period of positive temperature anomalies was recorded.

“Until now, the warmest period was not this winter, but the winter of 2006-2007, when December and the first half of January were very warm, warmer than now. However, this year in terms of duration it is an absolutely extreme situation, ”he explained.

Snowfall and heat return

The abnormally high temperatures in the capital this winter are explained by the fact that warm air from the Atlantic reaches Moscow and the region. This, in particular, said the chief specialist of the Moscow Weather Bureau Tatyana Pozdnyakova.

“For most of last January, the temperature in the metropolitan area was determined by classical cyclones, and the metropolitan area was in the warmest sectors of the warmest part, so the air temperature on average since the beginning of the month has exceeded the climatic norm by almost 9 ° C and on some days we had records of temperature ", - said the meteorologist in an interview with RT.

This year, the trajectories of cyclones are much more north than climate, Pozdnyakova added. This trend provides steadily warm weather in central Russia.

While in Moscow and the region cloudy weather prevails with rainfall. Further, the temperature will drop slightly and precipitation will turn into snow, as noted in the forecast of the Moscow Weather Bureau.

“On Wednesday and Thursday afternoon (January 22-23. - RT ), there will be snow almost during the whole day, and a drop in temperature is expected. On Thursday, the temperature in Moscow will drop to -6 ° C, in the region to -9 ° C, and the daytime temperature will remain negative, that is, it is likely that the snow will remain and temporary snow cover forms again, ”explained Pozdnyakova.

Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, also stated that the snowfall, which should begin on January 22, will lead to the formation of snow cover in the capital up to 4 cm high.

The chief specialist of the Moscow Weather Bureau notes that the cooling will be temporary. On Sunday (January 26), a new portion of warm moist air will come to Moscow.

“Daytime and nighttime temperatures in the city will be around 0 ° C, or slightly positive. And in the last days of January, a significant decrease in temperature is not expected. We can say that January 2020 is likely to become record warm for the entire history of meteorological observation, ”the weather forecaster concluded.
