In the new Netflix series Ares , Lisa Smit (26) plays the role of Carmen Zwanenburg, who is a high-ranking member of a rather sinister student society. Smit himself would not go so quickly to a student association. "I would drop out at the hazing."
"I am currently studying, but that is in Amsterdam, where I come from. So I don't need to go to an association to find friends," Smit tells NU.nl.
"Moreover, if you see all those students in dirty clothes running up and down the canal ... I would not participate. Certainly if you hear stories about how things sometimes get out of hand. I would go to such a drop out of hazing. "
Despite the fact that she does not care much about student associations, Smit did enjoy playing in a series about a student society. "It was a very nice series to make, really an adventure. It felt like we disappeared into another world for three and a half months, because many of the film locations were very special."
The role of Carmen Zwanenburg, at first glance a rather scary type, suited her well. "It was really a pleasure to play her. I think I often play the role of good girl , so this was something else again. Carmen does not necessarily look like me, but I could magnify certain traits of myself" , says Smit.
