• Discover.Riotinto, the branch of Mars in Huelva
  • Album: The 10 Wonders of Secret Cordoba

A territory that shows the traces of 5,000 years of mining activity, an old mine recovered for the enjoyment of children and adults, a museum full of jewels of cultural heritage, a house that takes us to Victorian England ... even a walk through the Planet Mars without leaving Earth: Riotinto Mining Park has plenty of arguments to rise one more year in the main destination of industrial tourism in Spain.

This is supported by the figures: in 2019 it received 96,975 visitors, which represents an increase of 4,197 people compared to 2018, which gives continuity to the sustained growth of recent years.

Two factors have contributed to this success, the benign climate that has been the tonic of the year and the good reception of the novelties and improvements introduced by the Foundation. These include the consolidation of night trains during the summer months: year-round access to the Peña de Hierro Interpretation Center; and, more recently, the musealization of the Santa María gallery in the former mining complex of the municipality of Nerva, closed for five months by a fire.

Mines can be visited on foot, by bike or on board a train.

The profile of the visitors is maintained in the usual tone, with the families being the most present, together with the groups of travel agencies and tour operators and the teaching center segment, which exceeded 21,000 students of different educational levels.

The route in the old mining railway in contact with the peculiar ecosystem of the Tinto river, the enjoyment of the incredible landscapes molded by the hand of man, the visit to the old Peña de Hierro mine (including 200 meters of tour through one of its galleries ), and the discovery of history in the Mining Museum and the 21st House of the English Quarter, make up a complete and varied experience that satisfies all audiences, from the adventurer, to the cultural or scientific.
