Rejuvenate the city with the Harajuku Project

A fashion show was held in collaboration with an apparel shop in Harajuku, Tokyo, to regain the liveliness of the shopping district in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, where vacant stores have increased.

The main street of Aizu-Wakamatsu City, the shopping street of Shinmei Street, has been conducting the “Harajuk Project” for 8 to 5 days, with vacant stores entering popular stores in Harajuku, Tokyo.

As part of this, a fashion show combining the products of the apparel shops on Harajuku and Shinmei Street was held in a hall near the shopping street.

Thirteen local people from the age of three to fifties participated as models and walked quickly wearing their favorite clothes.

Approximately 150 people, including female high school students returning home from school, gathered at the venue and photographed and modeled the model.

A high school first grader girl who saw the show said, "Everybody was beautiful and sparkling. I think it would be nice if you had a Harajuku store in the shopping district, because youth would want to walk."

The junior high school girl, who served as a model, said, "It was a good experience to go out in public with my favorite fashion. I want to continue doing this in Aizu because it is an unprecedented effort."

In the vacant stores on Shinmei Street, three stores in Harajuku, including a drink shop with tapioca, will be open until this month.
