The Golfech nuclear power plant in Tarn-et-Garonne. - Alexandre GELEBART / 20MINUTES

It is classified as level 1 on a severity scale of up to 7. An incident took place on January 3 in the power regulation system of reactor no. 2 of the Golfech nuclear power plant, in Tarn-et- Garonne. According to EDF, which made a statement Thursday to the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN), "this event had no consequence on the safety of the installations, on the safety of the personnel, nor on the environment".

Already, in December 2019, this same reactor No. 2 had been shut down after the discovery of "a steam leak on a pipe located in the engine room, in the non-nuclear part of the installations". This incident was classified as level 2 while another incident, level 1, occurred on October 8 during reactor drain operations.

Reinforced inspection

In September 2019, in its annual report, ASN reported a “deterioration” in the operation of the plant, before carrying out an enhanced site inspection in October.

The two Golfech reactors produce around half of the electricity consumed in the Occitanie region.
