Boso New Year's lucky harvest "Habanori" Picking Chiba Kamogawa January 10 14:58

The seaweed Havanori, a popular lucky charm for the New Year on the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, was picked in Kamogawa City.

Habanori is a seaweed that grows on the rocky shores of the shore from winter to early spring, and has a strong scent of the rocks.

Kamogawa City is supposed to fish only one day each in December and January to prevent it from being overtaken, but last month the growing situation was bad and picking was put off.

On the 10th, the weather was favorable, and about 80 people, including fishermen and their families, gathered on the coast of the Tianjin area.

A 77-year-old fisherman said, "There was no picking before the New Year, so it's a fair harvest. I want to continue next year because it's a local brand."

An 88-year-old woman, who has been picking for over 60 years, said, "I think this habanori is soft and of good quality.

After drying in the sun, most of the habanori are shipped to Tokyo and other places through fishing cooperatives.
