Of a total of 20 nominees in the actor categories, no minority person was found. Also, there was no woman among the directors who have the chance to take home the award in the Best Director category.

Shortly after the nominations were announced, the hashtag BaftasSoWhite began to spread on social media. Something that strongly reminded of 2016 when the Oscars gala was met by the same criticism and the hashtag OscarsSoWhite became a phenomenon.

Now the British Film Academy announces that they will review their voting system which selects the nominations for the prestigious film award in the suites of criticism, Variety writes. The aim is for the changes to be in place by 2021.

In an interview, Bafta's Film Committee Chairman, Marc Samuelson, describes this year's voting results as an "outrageous" lack of diversity.

"There is absolute openness to change and the organization has been clear with its opinion on the nominations and that they were not satisfactory," he tells Variety.
