Five days after the death of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, killed on January 3 by an American drone strike in Iraq, the Islamic Republic responded, as it had sworn to do, by launching Tuesday, January 7 at around 1:30 am (local time), more than a dozen ballistic missiles against two Iraqi military bases sheltering forces of the coalition led by the United States.

The strikes, which occurred in three waves, hit the bases of Ain al-Assad (west) and Erbil (north), said the US Department of Defense, confirming information from Iranian state television.

The Revolutionary Guards have warned that any US aggression against Tehran by the United States or its allies will result in a devastating response. They also threatened to hit Israel and America's "allied governments".

In a particularly light and rather soothing tweet, US President Donald Trump said he would make a statement Wednesday morning, while hinting that the balance sheet was not very heavy. "The damage and casualty assessment is underway. So far, everything is fine!" He said.
