In Moscow, Christmas Eve will be snowed. About this in a conversation with RT said the chief specialist of the weather center "Phobos" Eugene Tishkovets.

“On Christmas night it will be mostly cloudy. In the second half of the night, light snow will fall in places. The minimum temperature in the city is -3 ...- 5 ° С, in the region -2 ...- 7 ° С. Southwest wind, 3-8 m / s. In the daytime it is cloudy with light snow. The maximum temperature in the capital is 0 ...- 2 ° C, in the region 0 ...- 5 ° C. Southwest wind, 4-9 m / s. In principle, pleasant, comfortable weather for Christmas for January with little snow and light frost, ”Tishkovec said.

The chief specialist of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Marina Makarova also noted that the weather established in Moscow is warmer than usual. So, the average daily temperature exceeds the norm by 6-7 degrees. Moreover, in the second half of the week this indicator can reach 10 degrees.

“This is due to the fact that we are still under the influence of warm air masses coming to us from the northern Atlantic. Today we expect a temperature of -3 ...- 1 ° C. On Christmas Eve, the temperature will begin to drop gradually, in places it will snow a little. Christmas night will be in a negative, but rather mild temperature. In the morning in Moscow it is expected -5 ...- 3 ° C, in the region -7 ...- 2 ° C. On January 7, a moderate south-west wind of 5-10 m / s is forecasted. In the afternoon the weather will be cloudy, light snow is also possible. The maximum temperature in Moscow is -2 ... 0 ° C, in the region -5 ... 0 ° C. Then a change of weather awaits us, ”the meteorologist said in an interview with RT.

The Roshydromet website also reports that on January 6 and 7 in the European part of Russia temperature values will exceed the norm by 4-8 degrees, and in the Asian part by 10-16 degrees. In addition, by January 9-10, another wave of heat is expected in Moscow, which will bring a thaw and sleet.

In addition, the press service of the Hydrometeorological Center spoke about interesting historical facts related to the weather at Christmas. So, meteorologists recorded the coldest January 7 in 1891, when the thermometer columns dropped to -34.8 ° C. At the same time, the maximum temperature of +3.5 ° C was recorded in 2007 and 2018.

The greatest amount of precipitation occurred in 1999, when 10.9 mm fell in the form of snow and rain, given that the average amount over the entire history of meteorological observations is 1.2 mm.

If this year it is not necessary to talk about the presence of snow cover, then last year its height on that day was 36 cm, while the maximum figure of 49 cm was observed in 1994.

“Every day it will snow with different intensities”

At the same time, Evgeny Tishkovets, the chief specialist of the Phobos weather center, also gave a weather forecast for the next days of the week.

“In the future, the weather will be characterized by the“ warm breath ”of the Atlantic. We are waiting for slight warming, charges of snow and a decrease in atmospheric pressure. Over the next five days, these are near-zero temperatures in the daytime, and at night a slight minus. Every day it will snow at different intensities, which will give a modest increase in snow cover, ”explained the chief specialist of the Phobos Weather Center.

In turn, the chief specialist of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Marina Makarova also noted that the thermometer columns will begin to rise in the middle of the week, but the windy weather will continue.

“Then we will have warming weather, the trend for elevated temperatures will continue. In the afternoon, during the daytime, it is around 0 ° C, and at night a slight minus. The wind will begin to intensify on Wednesday, January 8, gusts in places up to 15 m / s, ”said the weather forecaster.

As noted on the website of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, almost the entire territory of the country is dominated by an extensive Atlantic cyclone, which contributes to the maintenance of an “anomalously high temperature background”. Forecasters expect that this situation will continue at least until the end of the first decade of January.

We add that the past year 2019 was the warmest for Moscow in the entire history of meteorological observations. The average annual air temperature in the capital was +7.8 ° C. Thus, the previous record was broken - +7.3 ° C, set in 2008.

“In 2019, the absolute maximums of temperature were exceeded six times: one in April, October, November, and three times in December. Two records of daily precipitation in January and February were updated, ”the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia said in a statement.
