The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) found that the ratio of recruitment examinations for elementary school teachers was 2.8 times this year, the lowest ever.

According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the number of test takers for elementary school teachers this year was 47,661, 3,536 less than the previous year. In contrast, the number of recruiters was 10,029, or 17,029.

As a result, the ratio of recruitment of elementary school teachers was 2.8 times, about one fifth of 12.5 times that of 2000, which was the highest.

Among the prefectures and cities designated by government ordinance, the lowest hiring ratio was 1.2 in Niigata, followed by 1.3 in Fukuoka and 1.6 in Saga. On the other hand, the hiring ratio was high at 6.1 times in Hyogo prefecture, followed by 5.8 times in Kochi prefecture and Sagamihara city.

In schools, teachers have a problem of excessive working style, but it is pointed out that if the ratio of hiring is too low, it will be difficult not only to secure teachers but also to ensure quality.

According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, "Municipalities that have been able to adopt employment stably over the medium to long term have been able to maintain a high ratio. We want each municipality to consider adoption with planning."
