Japanese police found the remains of at least 5 people yesterday in a wooden boat on the coast of a Japanese island, suspected of coming from North Korea.

The coast guard official said the police found the remains at the bottom of the boat, at nine o'clock local time, on the shore of Sado Island, which is located off Niigata, northwestern Japan.

He added that the police found two heads and five bodies, noting that the cause of death is still under investigation.

Shinin said the boat carried letters in Korean from abroad.

The official was not yet able to determine whether the heads had two bodies or two other people, and he said that the matter was under investigation.
