"Intolerable imprisonment". The Iranian ambassador to Paris was summoned on Friday December 27 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who reminded him of France's demand to see French researchers "Fariba Adelkhah" and Roland Marchal "released without delay."

"As the President of the Republic and the Minister have repeatedly emphasized, their imprisonment is
intolerable ", underlines the Quai d'Orsay in a press release, which also claims that" the Iranian authorities are showing total transparency on their situation ".

Fariba Adelkhah, research director at the Center for International Research (CERI) at Sciences Po Paris, has been detained since June by the Iranian authorities.

Unlimited hunger and thirst strike

Detained by Revolutionary Guards and accused of spying, the Franco-Iranian anthropologist started an unlimited hunger and thirst strike on Tuesday with another researcher detained in Tehran, the Australian Kylie Moore-Gilbert .

In an open letter to the New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI), the two academics say they have been subjected to "psychological torture" and "numerous violations of [their] basic human rights ".

Roland Marchal's arrest was confirmed by the Quai d'Orsay in October. The motive for his detention is unknown.

"Extreme concern"

"The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has expressed our extreme concern to the Iranian ambassador over the situation of Ms. Fariba Adelkhah who has stopped eating, and reiterated our request for consular access, until 'here refused ", specifies the Quai d'Orsay in a press release.

"France continues to follow the situation of our two compatriots with the greatest attention in close contact with their relatives. The French authorities will continue to act with determination to obtain their release."
