From "Pig Cholera" to "Pig Fever" Japanese name of infectious disease of pig December 26, 4:17

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has announced a policy to change the legal Japanese name to "pig fever" regarding the CSF of swine infectious disease, the so-called "pig cholera", because it does not match the actual condition of the disease.

CSF, the so-called swine fever, was confirmed in Gifu Prefecture in September last year, and has spread to pigs and wild boars in 13 prefectures in total. More than 150,000 pigs have been killed.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries last month changed the name of this infectious disease to CSF, which is used internationally, but will change the name in Japanese notation required by law from "porcine cholera" to "porcine fever" Was shown.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said that although CSF and swine cholera do not infect humans due to fever in pigs, they are associated with cholera that causes diarrhea, etc. It is considered to have taken into account the proposal that "should be swine fever in accordance with CSF = ClassicalSwineFever meaning pig fever".

On the other hand, ASF, which spreads rapidly in China and other countries, will also switch to African swine fever.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says that it will proceed with the name change from the beginning of the new year, and "usually wants to give priority to the name CSF and avoid confusion."
