According to seismologists, tremors were recorded 170 km west of the city of Port Hardy. The hearth lay at a depth of 10 km.
No injuries or damage were reported. The tsunami threat was not announced.
Earlier it was reported that off the coast of Guatemala an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 was recorded.
