"The situation for us is very strained with an economy that we have to struggle with every year to get together," says Susanne Thedéen, director of the Gotland Museum.

Due to the strained economy, Gotland's museum has had to close down some of its activities: Gotland's Art Museum. Already in 2018, older art that was upstairs was damaged, and in 2019 the art was taken down and the upstairs was closed. On the fourth of November, the entire art museum was closed indefinitely.

- We lack resources for maintenance and for being able to have the right air conditioning systems there, says Susanne Thedéen.

Met with the Minister of Culture to make demands

The Gotland Museum is not alone in struggling with the economy. Representatives of the country's 24 county museums have long warned that they are underfunded. During a meeting today with Minister of Culture Amanda Lind (MP), they presented demands for measures.

- We expressed our concern and demand that a trend break must occur. Basic funding must increase, we need more money for the regional culture, says Jonas Hellberg (S), chairman of the County Museums Cooperation Council.
