A WHO study estimates that 80% of teenagers in the world do not do enough sports. The young French are largely concerned: they arrive only at the 119th place of the ranking, out of 146 countries studied.

WHO is sounding the alarm. Four out of five teenagers worldwide do not get enough sport, she says in a study released Thursday. Young French people are very poorly ranked, ranking 119th out of 146 countries surveyed.

Few, therefore, are the French teenagers to follow the recommendations of the WHO, namely one hour of physical activity per day. Everyone has a good reason. There are first those, especially those who censor themselves. "I like football, but I think it's too complicated for me," thinks a teenager at the microphone of Europe 1. Some are simply (very) badly informed. "If you do too much sport, I heard that you can stop growing," says David, 13.

Lack of time

And then there are those who do not have the time. This is the argument that comes up most often. "My schedule is very busy at the moment. With the school, we finish the day at 17h, no need to add," says Faudé, a student of 5th. To counter the argument of lack of time, the WHO recommends that young people promote walking and cycling.

Because the lack of sport has very real consequences, which go well beyond the questions of weight. "In concrete terms, this means that we are less familiar with our memory, our ability to observe the environment and understand the world, and we will have much more limited reflexes and adaptation skills," says Jean-François. Toussaint, sports doctor, interviewed by Europe 1. An argument that is often a hit with young people ... and that raises good resolutions as the New Year approaches.
