INTERVIEW

Four years that he was not alone on stage. Élie Semoun is touring all over France until May 2020 for his new one-man-show: Elie Semoun and his monsters . His seventh solo show. In L'Equipee sauvage on Europe 1, the comedian explained why he still liked playing characters.

"I like to play characters"

Stand-up fashion? Very little for him. Elie Semoun recognizes it bluntly. "It's not lazy to stand-up, but we take less risk to tell his life and to say that we will wander at Ikea or put gasoline trying to reach the zero figure" says the comedian, well aware that he "caricature a little". "I have lots of friends who stand-up and I know that I irritate them when I say that, (...) but I like to embody characters as did Jerome Commander in his early days, or Muriel Robin", says the actor.

"I'm trying to find topics that nobody is going to look for"

According to him, the art of stand-up lacks originality. "The texts of Mr. A can be given to Mr. B and vice-versa, but I like to personalize things," said Élie Semoun. And in his show, he tries to be original by proposing funny skits, but with sense and substance. "I try to bring this little extra and find topics that no one is going to look for," he says. "The more competition there is, the more you want to look like no one else."
