Following the parameters of all populist and ultra-nationalist movements, independence is aimed at undermining the social prestige of the institutions in order to force secession through the facts. Their claims go through sinking the system of representation in discredit, in order to undermine constitutional self-government and erode the rule of law. In this context the unworthy conduct of Quim Torra is inserted. During the trial for disobeying the Central Electoral Board (JEC) to withdraw ties during the 28-A campaign, Torra had no excuse to admit, defiantly, that he failed to comply with the resolutions of this body . His statement comes the day after making fun of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia making fun of the effects that a lunch of beans was going to have during his appearance at court. This joke in bad taste reveals the low stew of a character with an infamous career, unable to preserve the dignity of the public office he holds.

It is unheard of that the ordinary representative of the State in Catalonia describes as illegal the body responsible for ensuring the neutrality of electoral processes. The reality is that yellow ties, an unequivocal symbol of adherence to separatism, could not shine in public buildings dependent on the Generalitat during the April elections. The Catalan president had the duty to withdraw them and, as a result of his persistent disobedience, he now faces 20 months of disqualification. His sentence would not result in the abandonment of the position he exercises, but he could not be a candidate for parliament again.

Apart from that, politically, Torra can already be considered a amortized character. It presides over a zombie government unable to approve budgets and carry out any laws. He has always lent himself to being the puppet of Puigdemont and his fanaticism - plagued in the insulting writings published before being president - has led him to justify the use of violence as a method for achieving political ends. His credit was exhausted when, after the sentence of the procés, he decided to halt street violence while ordering the regional police to repress in part the actions of the philoterrorist commands. Not only has Torra not stopped the social breakdown and economic uncertainty that hit Catalonia, but it has exacerbated its pernicious effects. Luca de Meo, President of Seat, warned yesterday of the possible transfer of one of the main economic lungs of Catalonia as a result of instability. Any responsible government would stop the flight forward and accept the law as a framework for coexistence. Torra, on the other hand, prefers to hit the crash . And what is really worrying is not that separatism incurs such a serious behavior, but that Sanchez seeks his complicity to continue retaining power.
