The story dates back to February, when a Chinese man known as Lu, a father of two, sought to sell his daughter, claiming he could no longer raise the two children alone after his wife left.
According to local media in China, Lu had earlier this year secretly met the Qin family, who, after losing their son several years ago and unable to have children again, wanted to adopt another child.
At that meeting, the father displayed a picture of his little girl whose age was not disclosed. He agreed with the Shen family to sell them to them for 80,000 yuan (11,425 US dollars).
But the plan failed, as the couple tried to obtain a child's identity card using a false birth certificate, which exposed the plot.
