The Atuk Apil instagrammer travels the world with a rubber duck. Wherever he goes, he takes out the camera. Since 2016 it has hung half a hundred photos , little thing. Nor does he have many followers. However, his account has been in the last hours the center of the penultimate viral controversy after an image of the duck hung in front of the gates of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.

As in other cases of public derision in networks, the photo has been removed and the instagrammer has apologized. What has been different in this case is that it was the Memorial itself that raised the debate.

"What happens when someone who travels with a rubber duck and uses it as an artistic convention on Instagram arrives at @AuschwitzMuseum?", The museum wrote on his Twitter account. "Is a rubber duck disrespectful in front of the Death Gate, even if it is not intended? Or is it a side effect of the visual world that we should accept / ignore?"

Atuk Apil has explained that it was not his intention to disrespect or generate controversy. "My sincere apologies for the inconvenience to all the people who have felt offended." However, the memorial wanted to highlight that the blogger knew where he was. This is indicated by the comments, in Spanish, of the post: "Auschwitz II (Birkenau), extermination camp, where most of the more than one million victims of the camp died. In this section women were located. Daily, full trains arrived of people and were immediately separated between “fit and unfit.” The fit had a life expectancy of months, while the unfit were sent directly to the gas chambers. ”

What's more, @AuschwitzMuseum has thrown the question to his followers: "That the person shows that he knows the importance of the place, improves the matter or makes it worse?". Among the almost 2,000 responses, Atuk Apil has found some defender, but most are condemning: "Ausschwitz is a place like very few. In fact, it is a cemetery and a place of suffering that deserves more respect than a duck can offer rubber yellow, "says @obucate.
