3000 correctional exhibitions displayed at a boy prison, spot sale Saitama Kawagoe November 9, 12:01

A “Correction Exhibition” is held at Kawagoe Shonen Prison in Saitama Prefecture, selling products made by inmates who are aiming to return to society at prisons nationwide.

Approximately 3000 items, such as furniture and leather goods made by inmates in prisons nationwide, are exhibited and sold at the venue.

Of these, the buckwheat pillow made at Nagano Prison was actually slept, adjusted in height to suit the physique and preference, and finished with a sewing machine.

There was also a corner where you could try making shoehorns just as you did in prison. Visitors used sandpaper to carefully polish the surface of the wood.

A man in his 70s who visited the site said, “I have come several times, but I am surprised if such a good thing is made.”

Mr. Fumio Shibata, director of Kawagoe Boy Prison, said, “I want people to feel what their inmates are spending and to support the people who came from the community as members of the community.”

This “Kawagoe Correction Exhibition” is open until 3:00 pm on the 9th.
