Shuri Castle Restoration building is outside the scope of “Cultural property fire prevention” October 31 13:45

Shuri Castle ruins were designated as a national historic site in 1972 and registered as a World Heritage site in 2000, but buildings such as the main shrine restored on the castle ruins are not included in the scope .

According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, fire protection measures are required for buildings designated as national treasures and important cultural properties based on the Fire Service Act and the Cultural Properties Protection Act.

In response to the fire in Notre Dame, France, in April, the Agency for Cultural Affairs conducted emergency surveys on fire prevention equipment for national treasures and important cultural properties, and compiled and managed the “Fire Prevention Guidelines”. We ask for inspections and countermeasures for systems, daily prevention, alarms and fire extinguishing equipment.

However, the buildings destroyed this time are not covered by these.

Notification of Agency for Cultural Affairs Check and confirm the restored building

In response to the fire at Shuri Castle, the Agency for Cultural Affairs issued a notice to local governments on the 31st for inspection and confirmation of fire prevention facilities not only for designated cultural properties but also for restored buildings.
