A two-year-old boy has been stuck in a narrow well in the south of the country after being trapped for 82 hours, officials said.

The child Sujith Wilson fell into the abandoned well when playing with his peers near his home in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu last Friday.

The child was initially suspended at a depth of about 10 meters before falling to a depth of 26 meters.

The official said. “The rescue operation didn't work,” Nehru said. The child's body was removed using special equipment and is in a state of decomposition. ”

After initial attempts to pull the child off with a rope failed, rescue teams on Saturday began digging a tunnel one meter wide parallel to the well.

“We managed to dig 65 of the 90 feet needed (19.8 meters from 27.4 meters), including a difficult rock section,” the official said. But the rescue operations were halted after the cameras showed no change in the child's position and the smell of the well, which confirmed his death ».

The body was initially sent to a government hospital for autopsy, and was later handed over to his parents who had buried her.

The Indian media blamed this for "blundered rescue efforts", including attempts to pull the child with a rope and adopt a "trial and error methodology."

Prayers were held in temples, mosques and churches across the state for the safe return of the child, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern.

It was the latest incident involving children falling into abandoned wells in India. A second-year-old boy also died in June in Punjab after being stuck in a well for about 110 hours.
