Macau relaxed food import regulations after the nuclear power plant accident 9 to export from 9 prefectures October 29th 4:11

Macau has relaxed food import regulations that have continued following the accident at TEPCO and Fukushima Daiichi NPS. As a result, vegetables and fruits can be exported from nine prefectures including Miyagi Prefecture.

After the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Macao continued to restrict imports of foods in the surrounding area and require inspection of radioactive materials.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Macao has relaxed this regulation on the 24th of this month.

As a result, vegetables, fruits and dairy products can be exported from nine prefectures in Miyagi, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Niigata and Nagano prefectures.

Also, beef and seafood can be exported without inspection of radioactive materials.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says that in Macau, as in nearby Hong Kong, interest in Japanese food is high, especially in the wealthy, so exports can be expected to increase due to deregulation.

However, the import of fruits and fishery products from Fukushima Prefecture has been suspended, and the Japanese government will continue to encourage the removal of regulations.
