Guest of the program "Culture media" on Monday, Daniel Picouly returned to diversity issues at France Televisions.

INTERVIEW

Towards more diversity in France televisions? This is in any case the objective of the pact for the visibility of overseas signed between the government and France Televisions last July. 25 commitments were made by the group to ensure the presence of overseas programs on national channels after, in particular, the decision to remove the channel France O from TNT by the summer of 2020. Following the signing of this pact , the program "The witnesses Overseas" of France O is now also broadcast every morning, from Monday to Friday, from 8:40 on France 3. The French writer Daniel Picouly, one of the chroniclers of the show, was the guest of Culture Media on Europe 1 this Monday.

"In terms of diversity, we do not constrain"

Discovered by the general public in 1995 thanks to the success of his family saga Le champ d' personne , Daniel Picouly is also a television man since he has long hosted the literary program Café Picouly , first on France 2 and then on France 5. He has also participated in several programs on France O. At the microphone of Europe 1, he said himself deeply "saddened" and "scandalized" by the disappearance of the chain. "What interests me is what there is after the removal of France O. The fact that the show is now broadcast on France 3 is an answer since commitments have been made to allow better I have always raised the question of diversity at France Télévisions ".

The person who describes himself as a "child of television", thus raised the question of quotas: "How is diversity assured and how is it controlled?" It is the problem of quotas. the world knows that the share of women is often the result of constraints in political parties. In the matter of diversity, we do not constrain. That is left to the good will of the leaders. But if it is not controlled, if this is not measured, how do we do it? I ask the question ".

"Are leaders available to welcome diversity?"

And to complete: "I believe in the republican model, the chances that give the school, I believe in the representation of the television which will speak to the little kid of city that I was and that made him a university to the But, afterwards, we can see that the integration of diversity in France Télévisions is not a great success. We can ask how this is done and how to fix it. In particular, he pointed out the role of channel leaders on these questions: "On television, there is someone who says yes or who says no when we propose a program, a fiction or a participation. Are these leaders available to accommodate diversity in a way that is representative of society?

The French writer, however, welcomed the commitments made during the signing of the pact for the visibility of the overseas territories in July. "A council has been set up to follow these commitments, and that interests me, so we will monitor these commitments and ensure they are implemented," he concluded.
