Sensitivity, empathy and affections are the raw material with which Pablo Alborán has raised an empire of hyperbolic figures and friendly music. The guitarist, pianist, composer and singer from Malaga has sold more albums than anyone in Spain during the decade that is about to end, with more than 1.7 million albums sold, 1,350 million listeners on Spotify and 2,580 million views on Youtube.

Transgenerational idol with his melodic pop songs, he accommodates himself in the role of millennial spokesman and rejects the topics of his generation: neither addicted to screens, nor individualistic. As THE WORLD, he was born in 1989.

You have entered the thirties only four months before THE WORLD. How would you say society has changed in this time? Is it more free and fair? Now there is a need to ask for gender equality or respect for diversity. It is not something new, obviously, but today it is more present because it seems incredible that there are a lot of rights that we still need to claim. I belong to a generation that is worried about what happens, we are people who do not care about things, in the same way that we consider a lot what we want in our lives. For example? The rights of women, for example. There is a lot of inequality yet, and I do believe that we have to keep fighting. And it bothers me a lot that feminism is considered to be a fad, or the struggle for equal gay marriage or for the environment ... Are you a feminist? I am a feminist. Of course. As a concept of struggle for women's rights, for their equality. But we should all be. Being a feminist should be implicit in what the human being is, as a man, as a woman, as a trans or as what you want to be. What are the main challenges facing Spanish society in the coming years, when millennials will have come by age to the decision positions? I don't think they are new challenges. They have been there for a long time, they are the ones we are talking about. What I hope is that we do not make the same mistakes that those who are now in power have made. I am reading the book of Harari 21 lessons for the 21st century and there it explains that everything is designed so that our children have a brutal access to information, technology and biotechnology, but that the social and economic gap will be increasingly large , and that the dream of globalization that existed in the year 2000, in which the Internet was supposed to make us free and equal and give us the same access to information, because in the end it is all a lie. People have less access to opportunities and he foresees that in the future you can buy a life, you can buy even gifts or talents, but not everyone will have access to all those goods because this will require money. That happens in Spain and throughout the world. Because I can't see Spain as something unique, because I consider myself a citizen of the world.

Do you find answers in current politics? When you see Parliament and that everything is monologues and monologues and monologues, and parties that merge, separate, come together ... I despair because I do not see a representation. I didn't see her five years ago and I didn't see her 10 years ago either. It is surreal to put the news and watch a speech in Parliament and see that they don't care. They don't even listen. And to take for sack. 'Are there elections? Well, I'm going to change my strategy. ' But there is a generation that cannot be teased and has already seen their parents tease. Do we have the politicians that we deserve or does society go ahead of them? We are going to new elections and I do not see anything evolved. I do not see that the speech has changed, I think they see the same duster. They have a great responsibility, which is to keep their promise, and nobody keeps it. Never. What are the great challenges that culture has in Spain today? I talk about what happens to me, that I have to make a brutal effort to return to my roots, to return to the culture of my parents, to the music, literature, cinema ... I understand that systems must change and evolve, but I'm afraid that a lot of information will be lost in that process. Social networks are not going to take you to read Blood Weddings , they take you to superficial things, to entertainment and an exhibition of what you want to look like. Culture is an inheritance that we have been given and that we have to leave to the next generations. The cultural challenge is not to forget where we came from to know where we are going, it is very clear. Do you think that we have to fight for Spanish identity? That is dangerous ground because, as I said, there are a lot of past mistakes that are repeated. My mother is French born in Morocco, my brother has lived in Morocco for four years, my father is from Malaga but he had to come to Madrid to work. That is why I feel that in our identity is also forget. And I insist that I do not speak Spanish because there are times that I feel Spanish and other times that I do not feel Spanish and that I feel more French, or that I would love to be Latin American.

You talk about not repeating past mistakes, what do you mean? Specific things in the history of our country. There has always been a right and a left; I want to think that this division will not always exist, but it is so. And we, the young people who have not lived through the dictatorship or the Transition, nor do we have that inheritance, sometimes we come up talking about how we would be better because we still don't know it, and we won't know if we don't work together. And the example of working together is not found in politicians now. What is the responsibility of culture and specifically music in today's world? The responsibility of culture in general is to show reality; Sharing the reality of each one is superpositive, but music cannot be required to give solutions to anything. It is an artistic expression. If music emerges as a reaction to something, what do your songs react to? In life there are things that awaken you the need to scream and in my case music is that scream, and the scream can come out of a thousand ways. In general, it is not only a demand for love, but to remember that we are also that, that helps us breathe from time to time, that it is something that we can also protect ourselves from and that I think is healthier than conflict , not that criticism, because criticism is necessary. They say that the disease of the 21st century is anxiety, anguish. Have you suffered it? Mogollón. Having an anxiety picture is horrible, it's like you're high. Your body is paralyzed, you think you're going to die and you don't have a single rational tool that you can grab. It is one of the worst things that happened to me. In fact I turned to the psychologist to help me out of that pothole. My parents say that didn't exist 30 years ago, but it sure did. I have suffered twice, once five years ago and once after finishing the last tour. How was it? It was three days of horror, but this time I already knew what I had, and since I can't stand being sick, not even having angina, I went to the psychologist immediately. It can't be a taboo to go to the psychologist, that's why I tell it, nothing happens to go to the psychologist, it helped me a lot. Why did it happen? Well, I think it was the contrast of spending so much time of great labor intensity, suddenly, the total emptiness of later. I was at home and didn't know what to do. I read, I went to the movies and nothing filled me. And I guess you also think you can with everything. Although they have given you 100 anxiety attacks, you think that with the five keys of the psychologist you can throw palante and suddenly it will come back to you again, because it is something that is in your character, in your personality. Artificial intelligence is already applied to artistic creation and with technological development it could grow even more. What do you think about it? There are artists who do experiments, like putting sensors on people who listen to music to see how they react. Then he puts you 100 songs and makes an analysis of which part of each one excites you the most, and then he takes the 100 parts, puts them together ... and you don't get a fuck. Creating emotion is something that artificial intelligence I hope it never achieves.
