In the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ain, at least five civilians and one journalist died on Sunday in a Turkish air raid that hit a convoy of civilians, according to Ludovic de Foucaud, France's special envoy.

The identity of the journalist has not been confirmed yet. Two French journalists were also injured during the attack.

Stéphanie Perez, a reporter for France Télévisions, was present in the convoy. She confirmed the attack on her Twitter account by mentioning that "confreres are dead".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) has provided a higher record of 26 civilians killed on Sunday. He also reported the death of "a journalist", but he was not able to give his identity or nationality.

Turkey and Syrian deputies on Wednesday launched an offensive in northern Syria to remove the Kurdish militia from the People's Protection Units (YPG), considered a "terrorist" organization by Ankara.

In five days, at least 104 Kurdish fighters and about 60 civilians have been killed in the violence, according to a latest assessment of the OSDH. The violence also caused 130,000 people to flee, according to the UN.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense has repeatedly said that all the necessary measures were taken in the framework of its operation to avoid civilian casualties.
