King Philip VI of Spain received yesterday evening His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at Zarzuela Palace in Madrid.

At the outset of the meeting, the Spanish King welcomed His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and his accompanying delegation, congratulating His Highness on the selection of Sharjah as the guest of honor for the current edition of the International Book Fair and praising the cultural exchange between the various cultural institutions in both countries.

During the meeting, they exchanged cordial talks and discussed views on issues of common concern, which revolve around the role of culture and education in building human development and the advancement of societies. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah presented a painting of Arabic calligraphy to His Majesty the King of Spain, as well as a collection of His Highness's works translated into Spanish.

The meeting was attended by the Spanish Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Fernando Martin Ballentuela, the UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Majid Hassan Al Suwaidi, and the Chairman of Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed Bin Rakad Al Ameri.
