The Cultural Complex continues to host UAE theater creations with the 4 o'clock screening on Tuesday. This week's screening program also includes a film about Emirati artist Najat Mekki, who is organizing a solo exhibition at the Cultural Complex until December 15.

The fourth hour play, presented by the Sharjah Folklore Society and the Modern Theater, is inspired by a play by French writer Laurent Pavy. It revolves around five personalities, each of whom lives miserably, because it is caught in a spiral of obsessive-compulsive disorder; directed by Ibrahim Salem. The staff includes Alaa Shaker, Faisal Ali, Mohammed Juma, Noor Al Sabah and Abdullah Hamdan. The play takes place in the waiting room of the psychiatrist Dr. Nader, where five characters meet while waiting for each turn, while the clock indicates the fourth only one-third.

Najat Makki

"Red Blue Yellow" by stars Al Ghanim, will be screened next Wednesday, and offers in 92 minutes, a unique glimpse into the life of the UAE artist Najat Makki. Although it is unusual to show the personal life of Emirati women in a film, but the director Nojoom Alghanim knew the artist Mekki, she is her aunt, and was a fan of her throughout her life. Thanks to this relationship and admiration, Najat Makki was relieved to talk about her life in front of the camera. It is noteworthy that the Cultural Complex is hosting in the main hall and ground floor spaces until December 15 next the first individual exhibition «Najat Makki: Illuminations». The exhibition highlights Makki's empirical and open approach in approaching the geographic and historical narratives that affected her. The inaugural season of the Cultural Complex also includes the first community art exhibition entitled “Dedication: A Celebration of Maki Najat”, with the participation of 19 Emirati artists influenced by the art of Najat Maki and her leading role in the development of the art scene in the UAE.

Artistic residence

The Art Residency Program, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Cultural Complex, is a platform to support artists and advance their artistic practices to an advanced level. Headquartered in Al Hosn, Abu Dhabi's vibrant heartland, the Cultural Complex provides artists with tools and resources, as well as fully equipped art studios. It also provides them with the conditions to create distinctive works of art and display them in the halls of the complex, thus offering them an opportunity to enhance their presence in the local and international art scene.

The four resident artists from the first edition of the Art Residency Program, Ahmed Saeed Al Arif Al Dhaheri, Aisha Hadher, Saoud Al Dhaheri and Zaid Tammash, will be presenting their final work at the Art Residency Studios until November 30.

Rita's eyes

The Cultural Complex Theater in Abu Dhabi last night hosted a concert performance by Quartet Anwar Ibrahim (Rita Eyes).

The Quartet includes Anwar Ibrahim (Oud), Klaus Gissing (Bass Clarinet), Bjorn Meyer (Bass) and Khalid Yassin (Tabla).

Anwar Ibrahim is the pioneer of acoustics with this traditional antique instrument, which carries the calabash music inside. Quartet presented the album «Eyes Rita», a tribute to the memory of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
