Acclaimed actor and singer Diahann Carroll has passed away in her Los Angeles home after a long illness, reports Variety magazine.

Diahann Carroll is best known for his three seasons as the character Dominique Deveraux in the American soap opera Dynasty in the 1980s. She was also the first African American actor to receive her own television series, Julia, in 1968.

In 1961, Carroll was awarded a Tony Award for his work in No Strings. In 1975, she was nominated in the Best Female Main Category for her role in Claudine, and she has also been nominated for two Golden Globes and four Emmy Awards.

During the 2000s, she starred in TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy and white Collar.
