A new monumental sculpture was inaugurated this Friday, October 4 in Paris. A sculpture that made controversy: "The Bouquet of Tulips", a work of the American star of contemporary art Jeff Koons. 12 meters high, 8 meters wide ... A giant bouquet of flowers offered by the artist to the city of Paris after the attacks of 2015 ... and that it was necessary to install somewhere.

Say it with flowers, but with discretion. The monumental bouquet of eleven tulips, held in one hand, is installed behind the Petit Palais, a few meters away from the Champs-Elysées. Final destination of a bulky gift ...

The idea was born in the head of the American ambassador in Paris two months after the attacks of November 2015 that blew the French capital. It is a strong artistic gesture to represent the friendship between France and the United States. Jeff Koons is quickly chosen ... and this is the first controversy. The artist holds the record for the most expensive statue in the world: a "Rabbit", the giant molding of an inflatable rabbit.

An " industrial and speculative " art ?

He has also represented himself in sculpture in very suggestive positions with his ex-wife, the Cicciolina, Italian porn star. In short, Jeff Koons symbolizes an " industrial and speculative " art, denounce his detractors in a petition.

Second controversy: the place. The esplanade of the Palais de Tokyo, first retained by the City of Paris, would have broken the perspective on the Eiffel Tower and the cost of installation would have exceeded 3 million euros, still according to the critics of Koons.

The bouquet of tulips will bloom on a triangle of lawn so far unoccupied. Jeff Koons has transferred the financial rights of the work to associations of victims of the attacks.
